Assistant Kauai county agricultural agent, Morito Kawakami held a position important in the island's economy but nonetheless volunteered for duty with the AJA [Americans of Japanese ancestry] combat unit for which Kauai held the territory's first physical examinations. He is examined by Captain E.P. Danforth, U.S. Army, at one of the last stages in the stiff physical examination. Kawakami, thirty-one, was born in Eleele, Kauai, and latterly lived in Lihue.
