summary: Note: In 1974, Mrs. H. B. Stevens, granddaughter of J.H. Carothers, provided the following identification:<p>" 1435 E. Custer Co., 1889*. J. H. Carothers, 3 miles W of Ansley. Little girl standing between Mr. John Henry and Mrs. Mary (Wallar) Carothers is Mrs. Agnes Carothers Curtis of Ansley, who died 19 Jan 1946. Older girl behind parents is Mrs. May Carothers Llewellyn of Chicago, who died 8 April 1965. Boy on horse to left is Paul Henry Jacob Carothers, M. D. of the Broken Bow Hospital, who died 29 Oct 1955. Boy on horse to right is John Wallar Carothers, M. D., of Lincoln, who died 26 Aug 1927. <p>Both parents died at Ansley, John Henry Carothers on 26 Dee 1927 and Mrs. Mary Wallar Carothers on 16 Jan 1935.<p>*The birthdate of Mrs. Agnes Carothers Curtis would give a clue as to the precise date of this picture, which Mr. Butcher gives as 1888 or 1889. She was born 16 Dec 1887, making her just a "babe In arms" in the summer of 1888. The size of the little girl Indicates that the picture was taken In the summer of 1889. Family sources identify the two women and baby to the left only as "neighbors".
