John Turn Farm, Smokehouse, River Road (Middle Smithfield Township), Shawnee on Delaware, Monroe County, PA
Summary
Significance: John Turn, farmer, carpenter and cabinet maker, began farming here about 1830, and built the house and barn. His grandson, Charles, ran the property as a model farm. The date of construction of the smokehouse is unknown but the building was being used as late as 1920s. This type of building was needed for the self-sufficient economy of the 19th century farm. The land is presently used as a summer camp.
