Kohl Farmstead, 3120 North Casaloma Drive, Appleton, Outagamie County, WI

description

Summary

Significance: In an area of rapid development, the Kohl Farm is significant as a prominent artifact associated with the early twentieth century agriculture in the vicinity. The farm contains a prominent Free Classic Queen Anne house, as well as nine other structures that contribute to the integrity and significance of the overall property, including a garage, small machine shed, silo, pumphouse, large machine shed, garage/workshop, original residence, cabbage barn and smokehouse. The two story, Queen Anne house, which was built in circa 1904, is an unusual example of the style. It features a steeply-pitched roof, varied surface materials, Tuscan porch columns, modillioned cornices and turreted towers, in addition to a sense of scale and massing unique to the area.
