Lincoln Avenue-High Street Bridge, Spanning Rahway River at Lincoln Avenue & High Street, Cranford, Union County, NJ
Summary
Significance: The Lincoln Avenue/High Street Bridge is a locally significant example of typical masonry arch bridge in construction. While this bridge type was constructed in Union County, New Jersey throughout the early 1870s, few examples survive. The bridge's unusual, funnel-shaped plan appears to reflect the anticipated suburbanization of Cranford Township, spurred by an improved transportation network.
