Significance: The Lockport Company Canal Bridge is significant as an intact representative example of a tower-drive vertical lift bridge, a subtype within the vertical lift bridge subtype. The bridge's variation is demonstrated in the location of a separate motor and drive mechanism on each tower. The motor and drive mechanisms power the two sheaves on each tower. The Lockport Company Canal Bridge was determined eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places in 2013 under Criterion C: Design/Engineering at the state level of significance.
