Lopez House, 517 South Convent Avenue, Tucson, Pima County, AZ

description

Summary

Significance: This simple adobe house was built and occupied, until recently, by the Antonio Lopez family. Lopez, a carpenter, constructed the house in about 1920, using current Anglo design standards: shingled hip roof with gablets, isolated site location, large setback, picket fence. Although built of adobe, with a facade similar to those of the Transitional Sonoran row houses to the north, this dwelling is more prominent along the streetscape because of its setback and site location.
