Summary
Louis Brennan - the Irish inventor and engineer, emigrated to Australia in 1878. He is known for his development of the gyroscopically-stabilized monorail and the Brennan torpedo, a type of guided missile. He also developed the gyroscopic compass and torpedo boat. Brennan demonstrated a working model of his monorail system to the British War Office and later to the British and Australian governments. The Brennan Monorail was considered a great engineering achievement of its time, and Brennan received numerous patents for his inventions. In 1909, he established the Brennan Torpedo Works in Kent, England, to manufacture his guided missiles.
