Significance: Magnolia Mound plantation is a completely restored house and grounds, operated by the Baton Rouge Recreation Commission and the Foundation for a Historical Louisiana as a living history museum, with costumed docents engaged in household tasks typical of early 19th century French Creole culture. The house, dating from ca. 1791, and 6 acre site are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Pigeonniers not only provided squab for the kitchen, but were considered a mark of affluence in Creole society. This pigeonnier was moved to the site in 1983 from Barthel Plantation in Sunshine, LA.
