Significance: Located off I-35, Old Troy developed from the Elm Creek Community established in the 1850s. Early community influences included agriculture endeavors and the stage coach line from Waco to Austin that made frequent stops in the area. The arrival of the Gulf, Colorado, and Santa Fe Railroad, and the Missouri, Kansas, and Texas Railroad transformed Bell County during the early 1880s. The decision to cross railroads through the community added considerable growth to the area by offering new forms of communication and an increased chance for trade...
