description

Summary

Significance: This structure, along with the three Transfer Houses (HAER No. RI-35-C) and the Conveyors (HAER No. RI-35-D) form the yard coal delivery and handling system constructed between 1940 and ca. 1950. The system functioned to provide coal to fire the power plant boilers in the Station (HAER No. RI-35-A). Rock coal was reduced to approximately 2-inch pieces in the Breaker House, which is significant as an integral component of fuel supply for the plant's electrical power generation operations.
Survey number: HAER RI-35-B
