Marian Anderson, noted contralto, sings a Negro spiritual at the dedication of a mural commemorating her free public concert on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on Easter Sunday, 1939. The dedication was held in the Department of Interior Auditorium before a distinguished audience on January 6, 1943. On the platform, (L to R) are Charles Houston, acting Dean of Howard University Law School, who presented the mural; Secretary of Interior Harold Ickes who accepted it for the government, and Oscar Chapman, Assistant Secretary of Interior
