Maryland Avenue, Washington, District of Columbia, DC
Summary
Significance: Maryland Avenue was developed along the lines of L'Enfant's 1791 plan of the city, as a roadway with vistas to the Capitol. Because much of its historic character has been retained northeast of the Capitol, the segment between First and Eleventh Streets, NE, has been included in the Capitol Hill Historic District.
