Significance: Constructed to house the growing medical practice of the Mayo brothers. Bringing other doctors in, they set up the first private practice of group medicine in the country. Contained opulent detailing and every conceivable modern medical convenience. This building was the first to house both research and diagnosis under one roof, independent of any hospital. This concept revolutionized health care throughout the world. Its founders, Doctors, William & Charles Mayo were 2 of the most innovative practitioners of medicine in the 20th century.
