Significance: Constructed entirely of wood and resting on metal piles in the middle of Mobile Bay, the design and materials used for construction of this lighthouse are unusual. / The Mobile, or "Middle Bay," Light was established in 1885 and the present structure was built in 1905. It has operated since 1935 as an unmanned light. Its wood frame construction is an unusual type of lighthouse design.
