NASA Industrial Plant, Reservoir & Pump House, 12214 Lakewood Boulevard, Downey, Los Angeles County, CA
Summary
Significance: Building 36 was constructed in 1942. It was used as a reservoir and pump house from its construction in 1942, during the WWII reconstruction of the plant for aircraft production by Convair, until the Downey plant was closed in 1999. The significance of the building is that it sits on top of a subterranean, circular concrete reservoir originally designed as an emergency reservoir for fire fighting. It is also very much unchanged from its original construction.
