Summary

Significance: Chambers A and B of the Space Environment Simulation Laboratory were critical to the success of Project Apollo and to the manned spacecraft program. Chamber A could achieve conditions similar to those at 87 miles above the earth's surface and was used in testing of the Apollo vehicle. When completed, it was the largest man-rated vacuum chamber built. Chamber B was used for testing the Apollo command module, as well as providing a simulated space environment for training astronauts.
