Significance: Designed by William Strickland (1788-1854), one of the principal architects responsible for popularizing the Greek Revival Style in America. The monument, with its finely proportioned obelisk design, reflects Strickland's command of neo-classical design. Cornerstone laid by Lafayette. Nathaniel Greene's remains reinterred under the monument in 1902.
