Significance: Designed by prominent Philadelphia architect Paul Phillippe Cret, was erected in Valley Forge State Park in 1912-16 to commemorate the suffering endured by General George Washington and the Continental Army in the performance of their patriotic duty during the winter encampment of 1777-78.
