Naval Ordnance Test Station Inyokern, China Lake Pilot Plant, Fire Station & Marine Barracks, D Street, at corner of 4th Street, China Lake, Kern County, CA

description

Summary

Significance: The Fire Station was built in 1944, as part of the original group of public works buildings within the administrative area of the China Lake Pilot Plant facility. It is a key contributing element of the China Lake Pilot Plant Historic District because it exemplifies the restrain International Style given to the administration area by the project architect, Palmer Sabin. This building along with three others located in the administrative area represent the architectural core of the part of the base. The group contrasts with the utilitarian character of the rest of the pilot plant.
