Navy Yard, Building No. 143, Between Isaac Hull & Patterson Avenues, Washington, District of Columbia, DC

Significance: Building 143 is a contributing property in the Washington Navy Yard National Historic Landmark. The Washington Navy Yard once served as the center for naval ordnance research and production and is significant for its role in the development of the U.S. Navy. The building was constructed to provide critical storage space for supplies during the second decade of the twentieth century. The Bureau of Yards and Docks adopted the design of this warehouse as a new standard for general warehouses constructed during World War I and through the beginning of World War II. The building's exposed concrete frame reflected a new industrial style popularized by Albert Kahn for civilian factories.
