New elevator installed in Washington Monument. A new elevator has been installed in the Washington Monument and the thousands of sightseers to the Capital this summer can be accomodated in their climb to the top of this 555 feet granite shaft. This elevator makes more trips per day. In addition to the new elevator, precautions are being taken to prevent suicides, four having been committeed since the Monument was built.
