Nextor Saens Store, Hidalgo Street & Juarez Alley, Roma Creek, Starr County, TX
Summary
Significance: Nestor Saens's store is an excellent example of Rio Grande moulded brickwork introduced by Enrique Portschilier. The roof is constructed of pine beams overlaid with pine decking. Interior woodwork was manufactured from local cypress. Such establishments as this, established commercial linkage of the Rio Grande River steamboat trade to the sparse regions of northern Mexico during the 19th century.
