NIKE Missile Base SL-40, Sentry Guard House, Beck Road at entrance to base, Hecker, Monroe County, IL
Summary
Significance: This sentry guardhouse was used to control access to Nike Missile Base SL-40. This building was built in 1958 from standardized drawings approved by the Corps of Engineers. Originally, all buildings were to be pre-fabricated structures, but were rather unsightly and did not contribute to troop morale and, therefore, were changed to modified emergency design.
