Summary

1991 Charles E. Peterson Prize, Entry
Significance: The Nolan House was constructed circa 1840 in the hills of Claiborne Parish. The pens of the dogtrot were constructed of hewn logs with half dovetail notches. Floor and roof beams extend from left and right as continuous members. A stone and stucco chimney existed for the right pen. Stairs led to a floored loft over the right pen only. End elevations have no windows. The Nolan family arrived in Louisiana circa 1840. A daughter, Simmy Ann, married James Carter circa 1890. The house was sold to the Kimball family circa 1920, who sold it to Seth Tatum in the 1990's.
