Old City Auditorium, 404-424 North Fourth Street, Saint Joseph, Buchanan County, MO
Summary
Significance: Designed by Edmond Jacque Eckel, FAIA, a renowned architect in Missouri and the nation. The building is a rare example of a Renaissance Revival II style building. The architectural style, Renaissance Revival, with ornate terra-cotta ornamentation, is rarely found in Missouri. It is also the best known example of this style by Edmond Jacques Eckel, whose work began in 1869 and continued through the third decade of this century. Eckel designed many of the finest buildings in Missouri, but the use of the Renaissance Revival style was rare, if not unique.
