Called "The Weirs" by locals, the village, techincally part of larger Laconia, is named for a wide, sandy, public beach on Lake Winnipesaukee. At the center of the village are a boulevard, boardwalk, and long-time amusement area still in business. The main summer port of the Winnipesaukee Flagship Company's MS Mount Washington is located on the boulevard. It is also a popular spot for boaters on Lake Winnipesaukee.
