description

Summary

Title, date, and keywords based on information provided by the photographer.
Two of the friezes are inscribed with the dates 1885 and 1915. Between them is a frieze with the name Joseph Nalle. The theater was built in 1915, but the 1885 date inscribed over the windows shows the date the Nalle family acquired the property. Nalle was mayor of Austin while the building was being constructed (by him; he was a builder as well as politician), but the theater was the idea of his son, Ernest. It opened on October 11, 1915.
