Pals amid the ruins. These two friends live at Fresnes, one of the ruined towns of France. Every house of the town is in ruins, but the widowed mother of the little boy has made a shelter in the ruins of their former home and the boy and dog cuddle up close to each other on cold nights to keep themselves warm. The Junior Red Cross of America sent this little boy and all the others in Fresnes good sweaters last fall and the winter passed without any of them being seriously ill. Life in the devasted towns is severe even on the elders, because of the lack of proper shelter, clothing and food, but for the children it is particularly severe, and a sweater will often save a life
