Part of the family of R.D. Thomas. He and a boy of 15 are working in the Century Cotton Mill, South Boston, Virginia The girl on the ground does not work now, but said she was 12 years old (which she would not likely have done if she were in the mill). These children who are not working make a good means of comparison for ages of those that are working. Family has lived here four years. Before that, they lived in a Virginia farm.
