Summary

Black leather-bound photograph album featuring 36 black & white captioned prints and 46 black & white portraits of girls. The pages of the album following the portraits of individual girls are blank. 13 loose photographs inserted in the album (not pasted in) were digitized as part of the album. Topics of the latter include: children, playing in snow, 1920; Christmas holiday photo with group of children and adults gathered by Christmas tree, ca. Dec 1918-Jan 1919; images of outings and picnics at Ain Karim and Hebron, 1921; a birthday party, ca. 1921; an Easter lunch, ca. 1920; a harvest on a hillside with Jerusalem on the horizon, ca. 1920; an outdoor commencement [?] celebration with a large American flag as awning, ca. 1920; and children participating in a sack race, labeled as July 4, 1922.
Snapshots include photo of the Christian Herald Orphanage conducted by the American Colony; the playground of the orphanage; groups of children in the courtyard, Christmas 1919; teacher and children in classrooms; children at recess; sewing classes; wash day; food preparation and meal times; ceremonies and commencement; dentistry; picnic outing to Ein Karim; snow in winter; gardening; and teachers with children. Teacher Milly Jacob is identified in one of the classroom scenes and teacher Ruth Whiting (sister of John D. Whiting) in the photograph of the "Sewing Class." Ruth Whiting and another woman can also be seen in one of the two photographs captioned "Meal Time." Sarah Haramy and Milly Jacob are identified in the photograph captioned "Teachers."
