Vida Milholland of New York City, was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Milholland and sister of Inez Milholland Boissevain. She was a student at Vassar College where she excelled in athletics and drama. She studied singing abroad, but upon death of her sister gave up her musical career for full-time work in suffrage. She was arrested in Washington, D.C. July 4, 1917 for picketing and served three days in District Jail. In 1919 she toured the United States as part of the "Prison Special" tour of NWP speakers. She sang at all the meetings. Mrs. H. O. Havemayer of New York City was arrested in Washington, D.C., Feb. 10, 1919, for taking part in the final watchfire demonstration and sentenced to five days in District Jail. She took part in the "Prison Special" tour of suffragists who spoke nationwide about their experiences being arrested for demonstrating for suffrage.
