Significance: The Medical Officer's Garage, a vernacular outbuilding built in 1938, is significant as part of the most significant residential compound at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital, and reflects the role of the automobile in twentieth-century life. The compound is made up of both Medical Officer's Quarters B (HABS No. VA-1287-E) and Medical Officer's Quarters C (HABS No. VA-1287-B), and includes two other outbuildings, the Gardener's Tool Shed (HABS NO. VA-1287-C) and the Service Building (HABS No. VA-1287-D), located in the yard behind the residences.
