Redwood Ordinary, 449 Nicholson Street, Williamsburg, Williamsburg, Virginia

description

Summary

Significance: Redwood Ordinary is an unrestored circa 1825 frame house near the northeast edge of the Colonial Williamsburg historic area. The building remained essentially unaltered until the second quarter of the twentieth century, when its fenestration was changed, siding was replaced, a porch and rear leanto were added, new partitions were introduced in the cellar and first floor, and a rear bulkhead was blocked. In 1976, plaster and most additions were removed, revealing the structure of the dwelling. In this stripped condition, the building was drawn during the summer of 1981.
