Summary
Significance: The tavern historically held commercial and social significance for the unincorporated community of Cato. The tavern was the first of only two licensed drinking establishments in the area. Its second-floor recreation hall - used for dancing and sports activities - was a center for community social life, being cited as such by an early chronicler of the area. The building housed the headquarters of the community's largest fraternal organization, the Order of Modern Woodsmen.
