Summary
Significance: The Richmond Bridge was an important element in the first Federally-assisted highway connecting Houston, and San Antonio, two of Texas' major metropolitan areas. Its construction marked the first use by the Texas Highway Department of a cantilever truss structure and of pneumatic pier excavation.
