Saltus-Habersham House, 802 Bay Street, Beaufort, Beaufort County, SC
Summary
Significance: exceptionally tall, this tabby structure originally incorporating three full stories over an elevated basement. It is a rare example of a late eighteenth-century merchant's house constructed alongside of stores, a wharf, and other outbuildings on the waterfront. Architectural embellishments, singular in Beaufort County, include an elliptical timber staircase (added ca. 1825-35) and a domed star hall.
