Second Avenue Bridge, Spanning Oostanaula on State Route 101 (Second Avenue), Rome, Floyd County, GA

Significance: The Second Avenue Bridge is a rivet-connected Camelback through truss. It is composed of two steel trusses which each measures 165' in length and two concrete approaches. The overall length of the bridge is 470' and 31' in width. The Austin Brothers Bridge Company of Atlanta erected the structure in 1930. A sidewalk, seven feet in width, is cantilevered beyond the southwest side of the truss system. The roadway of the bridge is 24 feet in width. The Second Avenue Bridge is one of 36 Pratt through trusses in Georgia and one of eight Camelback bridges in the State. It is the only Camelback truss in Floyd County, although there is one other Pratt through truss located there. The bridge is representative of Camelback trusses constructed in Georgia between 1902 and 1935.
