description

Summary

Significance: The intake represents an original component of the 1921 expansion of the Shoshone Falls Hydroelectric Project and the point at which water is channeled into the tunnel and penstock system, which directs water into the powerhouses. The grizzlies (trash racks) of the intake play an important role in filtering debris that could become lodged in the Taintor gates, tunnel, or penstock or cause damage to the turbines in the powerhouses.
