Silverton Historic District, Silverton, San Juan County, CO
Summary
Significance: Silverton, a vast mining district in southwestern Colorado, was established in 1874. Miners came to Silverton seeking gold in the 1870s, but instead found silver, copper, and lead. Silverton reached its peak year in wealth and population in 1879.
