description

Summary

Significance: This building contributes to the integrity of design, workmanship, setting, and sense of time and place of Singer's Tavern group. / Cabin 22 and 23 is one of six sleeping cabins standing in a row north of the Singer's Lake Crescent Tavern main lodge and approximately 75 feet from the Lake Crescent shoreline. These cabins stand on the site of an earlier row of wood frame canvas tent cabins, erected soon after the establishment of Singer's resort. This cabin and its adjacent neighboring cabins were probably constructed around 1919. Unlike the row of six cabins directly to the east of the main lodge, these cabins have received more extensive alterations since their construction. Possibly in the 1940s the owner joined several cabins by constructing gambrel roofs over adjoining pairs. In the late 1960s or early 1970s, the existing wood board and batten siding was replaced with simulated board and batten paneling. Porches and interiors have also been replaced or remodeled over the years. In terms of scale, overall design, siting and landscaping, the entire row of cabins has maintained much of its original integrity. More importantly, Cabin 22 and 23, and its adjacent cabins, contribute to the overall feeling and ambiance of Singer's Lake Crescent resort. Little is known of the the social history of this cabin.
