Summary
Significance: Block 96W, surrounded by Water Street, Beekman Street, Front Street, and Fulton Street, a block away from the East River, was at one time part of that river. Beginning in 1750, owners of waterlots granted by the Common Council, began to fill in their lots, creating first Water Street and then Front Street. While the block was developing between 1750-1797, structures were built upon it, but none of these remain. Today the block contains buildings dating from 1797-1914...
