Significance: The bridge over the St. Francis River on U.S. 70, constructed by the Wisconsin Bridge and Iron Company, was part of a 1930s highway and development project. Comparable with the Black River Bridge at Pocahontas the St. Francis River Bridge differs in its historical context and in its structural details. It is, with the bridge at Pocahontas, one of three swinging road bridges in the state.
