Summary
Significance: St. Vincent's Hospital, which includes this building, was founded in 1849 by the Sisters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul. It is the third oldest, and first Catholic, hospital in the city. This imposing seven story high building is conspicuously located on a corner lot. The building was designed by Schickel and Ditmars, who were well known for their designed of Catholic Churches and institutional buildings. This building is also a contributing member of the 65 block Greenwich Village Historic District.
