The Statue was designed and executed in plaster in Florence, Italy, by Larkin G. Mead, and cast in bronze by the Ames' Manufacturing Co., Chicopee, Mass. It was placed in position in September, 1874, and unveiled October 15, 1874. Its height is 10 feet 10 1/2 inches, weighs 4862 pounds, and cost $13,700.
Entered according to act of Congress, in the year 1877, by J.A.W. Pittman, in the office of the Librarian of Congress at Washington, D.C.
