Summary

Significance: The Stono River Bridge is identified as "Charleston 3) in the South Carolina Department of Transportation's Metal Truss Highway Bridge Inventory. The bridge is noteworthy in that it represents the only swing span in South Carolina which utilizes a pony truss configuration (all other swing spans are through trusses). It was determined to be eligible for the National Register of Historic Places in January, 1983.
