Sunshine Speedway, 4550 Ulmerton Road, Pinellas Park, Pinellas County, FL

Significance: The Sunshine Speedway was constructed in 1960 and consists of a paved 1/8-mile National Hot Rod Association drag strip and a 1/4-mile oval track with a figure-8 inside. Two 1960 buildings, the pit office and the drag strip tower, are also located on the property. The original concrete block entrance on Ulmerton Road also remains. The Sunshine Speedway was an important entertainment and social center for the local community and is representative of the history of automobile racing beginning in the mid-twentieth century.
