Summary

Significance: Originally the ranch house on Thomas Maxwell's Wyoming homestead, this structure became the seat of activity for the Swan Land and Cattle Company soon after its incorporation in 1883 and the residence of its manager. The immense cattle enterprise was engineered by Alexander Hamilton Swan, a pioneer and innovator in the breeding and raising of cattle. Swan's company was among the largest and most important operations of the American Range Cattle Industry.
