Théodore Rousseau - [Thatched huts and windmill] / Th. R.
Summary
No. 205.
Schulman noted the naiveté of the drawing but still attributed it to Rousseau, based on the 1868 sales stamp. There are similar, generic huts painted by Rousseau during these years and this sheet may have been used as a reference when the artist was painting scenes with small huts dotting the landscape.
Inscriptions: Verso: all in different graphite handwriting scattered about page: "Rousseau. Thatched hut"; "chemt[?] 83"; "ThR. (3)"; "T (or J) V"; "2[?]"; "144" crossed out; "18,96"; "LC 1513" with "B" underneath; and on mat: "Bradley collection 1513 #205."
Title, date, subject, and physical description by Diane de Grazia, 2014.
Schulman dates the drawing to between 1855 and 1860.
