The George Ankeney family who lived 15 miles north west of Sargent at Cummings Park, Custer County, Nebraska

summary: Mrs. Ankeney was the wife of James Cumming who was killed in the well show in this photograph in September of 1885. The well was rebuilt in 1886. Mr. Ankeney was working for Mr. Cumming at the time of the accident. An annotation in Butcher's handwriting reads: "Louis Ankeney Cummings Park, West Union precinct. This is the old Commings place showing the well where Mr. J. Cummings lost his life. Mrs. Cummings now Mrs. Ankeney can be seen in picture."
